When I went to mtn yesterday I asked them for a mate 7, I kept on asking them if it is the 3GB ram version they said yes, today I went to get the phone and once I was done setting up I went to check what android version i have and to my surpise my phone has 2GB ram, is there anything I can do? As this is not the version of the phone I thought i was getting, can I do anything about this? Or am I stuck with it for the next 2 years?

Unable to connect to PPTP VPN server when using MTN.
Hi all,
I've got a VPN server established which myself and a few friends connect through to play online games due to mobile providers not allowing us to forward ports,
We all connect to it via a PPTP connection.
The two of us that are using MTN are not able to connect to the server at all, while everyone else has no issues.
Is MTN blocking PPTP sessions, and if so, why?

MTN Prepaid Sim Card in a Dongle
I had a run in with MTN today.
My daughter has a Huawei Mobile Broadband E173 Dongle with an installed pre-paid sim card in it.
Worked pretty much flawlessly for more than 2 years.
Then she started having hassles with recharging it. the MTN Online software started giving her hassles, after which she had to go through a rigmarole to get recharge vouchers.
The about 3 months ago, she could not even do that anymore. There is about R 200 worth of airtime/data on the sim according to her last voucher.
Now the dongle refuses to connect, and placing the sim into a phone comes up with a message that the sim is not registered.
She has lost all the paperwork that came with it and no longer knows what the cell number is associated with the card.
MTN claim there is nothing they can do to sort this out without the cell number!
The dongle works fine as I placed a contract sim into and it works.
Anyone know how I can get to speak to someone about sorting out this mess?
One cannot get past any of the auto steps without the number and when you finally get to talk to a human you get the same stoopid answer.
What I also want to establish is how can one sort out the software issue relating to why purchasing more time/data using the MTN Online sw no longer works.

My MTN Steppa tablet was stolen on the 18th of October. I open a case at the SAPD Randfontein and then I was at the MTN store at Presedent Hiper Krugersdorp on the 20/10/16.
Because I have assurance at mnt for that tablet I open a claim at them. The guy who word there told me that
I must call the claim department 10 day later to hear about my claim.

Customer care cant help me, said I must call the 011-912 3000 number (head office).

Can't get MTN LTE connection (Samsung S5 - klte - CM14.1)
I'm trying to diagnose why I can't get an LTE speed connection on my
Samsung S5 (SM-G900F) - running cyanogenmod 14.1 - recent bootloader (G900FXXU1CPJ6) and modem (G900FXXU1CPJ1). I've checked the modem nvram settings and am pretty sure that the right LTE bands are enabled for MTN. I have an LTE SIM and have tried connecting to MTN APN internet and Afrihost APN afrihost. Afrihost have reprovisioned my LTE twice to no avail. I have the LTE VAS Service on my contract. I'm in Cape Town CBD.
I've tried many of the work arounds in various forums - deleting all apns (including /system/etc/apns-conf.xml) and just adding the one I am using, setting preferred network type to 2g/3g and back to LTE; switching to airplane mode, rebooting...

Ok so I have MTN fiber deployed and ready in my area (Lonehill). Their prices are ridiculous and wanted to see if I can use another ISP. Based on my discussion with them I can only use them and no other service provider.

USSD / sms check if MTN sim has been migrated to prepaid or contract
Hi,
We have been trying for 4 days now for MTN via the call centre to convert an expired / cancelled contract sim to prepaid.
Dialing customer services from the handset now routes you to different options so it 'seems' it has been migrated but no sms was received
The other weird thing is we were told we would lose all contract bundles that still had a balance....those came across / or maybe not
If there is no sms / USSD check anyone know a prepaid call centre number to call, all the ones we tried you never end up talking to a human

No MTN signal

im currently using an MTN sim for data purposes. Yesterday i lost signal and can only make emergency calls.
i have tried restarting the phone, with no such luck.
its a new phone that im using with this sim. so surely the issue isnt phone related.

She's been using BIS at R60 per month and has converted to MTN prepaid. She buys R5 data, only uses Whatsapp and the data is depleted in 1 day.

just wondering if anyone else has this issue. got an mtn contract that gives me roughly around 1gb of data. after the data is finished. i dont have any data what so ever...
i recall the days of when my data bundle ran out and but I could still use data (which i paid for extra, which was automatically add to the bill)

Went to get the Black Friday special, MTN is down
Went to the MTN store in Westwood mall to get their Black Friday deal but their systems were down for over 2 hours!
At 7, manager tells everyone to leave. What the heck? They advertise the product, we wait in the queue way before their closing time but then get treated like crap?
Asked the manager to give proof that we were there so tomorrow we can phone mtn with proof that we were there but it's their systems fault, manager says he can't give us anything.
What can be done to get MTN to honor their deal since we waited for so long? It's their systems fault, not ours.

MTN LTE Setup - Huawei HG532f router with 3G failover
I grabbed the 50GB/month MTN special and I'd like to use the SIM on my current ADSL router in 3G failover mode, but I'd also like to get LTE speeds so I am requesting some advice. I can see LTE mode on my ipad with my Afrihost SIM (which also uses MTN) in my home, so I assume I have MTN LTE coverage.
1) Is it worthwhile to get an LTE dongle, like the HUAWEI E3272 http://www.pc-direct.co.za/huawei-lt...nd-telkom.html, as opposed to a 21 Mbps 3G dongle?
2) The 3G/LTE dongle has to be plugged into the ADSL's USB port, so I don't think the router itself will limit things to 3G only since the dongle will be providing the data connection. Does that seem correct?
3) The SIM is a voice/data one and not just data-only, so I assume I only have to setup the SIM once in a real phone and then I can use it in a dongle without any further hassles?
4) Also, I've never had a cell contract before, so how will I know I won't go over the 50GB and get charged extra?

Recently ported to MTN - No longer receiving sms's etc from banks
I ported to MTN from Vodacom over the weekend, but now I dont receive sms's/otp's/2fa's from them anymore. I am with FNB and Absa and its the same from both.
When I try to go into the Absa app it says they detect that Ive recently had a sim swap (due to the fact that I ported) and the app cant be set up and I have to wait 36 hours, which is understandable.
When logging into FNB it takes my login name, but then asks for an OTP which I dont receive.
Is this a problem on the network side or is it a problem from the banking side?

MTN Mobile Gaming
Hi, I recently got a MTN contract 50gb data per month . I put the simcard in my huawei LTE router . i set a static IP on my PS3 , DMZ , Port Forwarding . Disabled all firewalls . The NAT type is always Type 3 (strict)
i have another MTN simcard with an Afrihost APN and when i use it in the router its always an Open NAT type . only problem is i only get 1gb a month.
Any ideas of what i can do ?

Alcatel OneTouch L850v
Just needing to find out if anyone else is experiencing problems with the Alcatel OneTouch L850v USB Modem from MTN on a Windows 10 based system? I find that it takes Windows 10 2 minutes to regsiter the device is even connected as a USB modem. The reason for this is that upon connecting the device, it first detects as a USB thumb drive (USB memory stick), after it has checked that the MTN software is already installed, it then decides to convert to a MTN modem. During all this time it looks as if the modem is connected but Windows 10 has not yet registered the DNS for the device and so will not find any website. It then takes about 30 seconds or a minute before Edge decides to open the browser to the Modem's front page. It then takes an additional 30 seconds to a minute for Windows to register that the device is now the main form of internet and can use it for browsing.
I do not have a problem with waiting for 5 minutes before the device becomes available but other users are not as patient and so I can understand it from their perspective. I have tried this device on two seperate computers although both Dell with i7 (6th generation) processors and 8gb+ RAM.
I have an old D'Link modem that only supports 3G and I seem to get better and faster connection times than with the MTN software on this preloaded MTN Alcatel OneTouch L850v usb modem.
I just need to see if my I.T. skills are really deteriorating that drastically or if others have experienced the same thing?
I suspect it to be firmware related but MTN does not offer any firmware upgrade for this device at present and I cannot seem to locate any other firmware that might be compatable with this usb modem device.
The firmware is L850_EF_01.16_03 and the files are dated for the 30 October 2014. All seem extremely old. Now I know the alternative option is to go for a Wifi router but I know the user does not want something as bulky as the wifi router. So only other option is to purchase another USB modem that supports LTE, any suggestions?
